NOTE: Most registered online customers in the UK are automatically verified by our system once they’ve clicked the button in the “My identification status” section of their profile, and don’t need to send us any additional information.
If we haven’t been able to verify you automatically, we’ll send you an email asking you to provide proof of your identity and address before you can send money online with us again. The email will include these instructions:
STEP 1: Copy or scan the front and back of your photo identification. Picture, signature, date of birth and expiry data must be visible.
Acceptable identification for the United Kingdom*:
- Driving License
Proof of address(Not older than 3 months)
- Utility bill
- Credit card statement
- Bank statement
STEP 2: Copy or scan your proof-of-address document. Your name and address must be visible. Note that we can’t accept documents that were downloaded from the Internet; they must have been mailed to your home.
STEP 3: Return documents to Western Union:

Send copies of your ID and proof of address to:
Scan by email:
Attach scans (as PDFs or JPGs) to an email addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
STEP 4: It can take three (3) to five (5) business days for your identification to be verified. We’ll email you once the process is complete. You can also check the “My identification status” section of your profile online.
If you need to send money before your identification is verified, you can send cash from one of our many Agent locations.
