What is MTCN?

Canada By Janaina Da Costa October 24, 2022

Those who need to transfer money between countries can rely on the services of the Western Union Canada, a company responsible for intermediating this type of financial transactions. One does not even need an account abroad or a credit card in order to complete the transfer.

That is one of the reasons this is considered a convenient way to send money to someone living abroad, like a family member, or to receive money from someone in another country.

When sending money, the sender receives a number called the MTCN. But what exactly is this number? If you have doubts making international transfers, read this article and find out everything you need to know!

What is the MTCN and why is it important?

The MTCN is the transaction identification number. This number is automatically generated by Western Union when a transfer is created. As soon as you complete the digital operation, the MTCN number will be displayed on the receipt screen and also sent to the registered e-mail. It will be valid after the the payment of the remittance.

In the case of a store operation, after paying your transfer, this number will be printed next to your receipt. Then just digit the 10 digits and start tracking your transfer.

With the sender’s name and the MTCN in hands, the recipient (the one who will receive the money) can also track the status of the transfer through the Western Union website. The name of the sender must be correct and complete.

When the pickup cash option is chosen, recipients must inform the MTCN at one of Western Union’s stores to withdraw the cash. They also need to show their ID.
