On Saturday, December 19, the holiday spirit filled the air and delivered a little cheer to families in need, thanks to a new partnership between Western Union’s Black Advisory Council, the Urban Leadership Foundation of Colorado (ULFC), and the Denver Nuggets.
Project Mingle Jingle is an annual holiday drive, founded by the ULFC, to help families in need with food, resources, and a little holiday joy to get through the season. This year donated $25,000.00 to support ULFC’s efforts and joined forces with the Denver Nuggets, who provided a few additional surprises of their own, including some personalized family messages from players Michael Porter Junior and PJ Dozier.
“The year 2020 has been difficult on so many fronts”, said Kanika Wilkerson, Global Internal Communications and WU Black Advisory Council Lead. “Due to the pandemic, there are many families who just need a little more help this year. As a responsible corporate citizen, and a company who gives back to the communities it serves, it was a perfect time to join efforts with our local community partners to make a difference this holiday season.”
Members of
Western Union’s employee resource group, the Black Advisory Council, volunteered to bundle donations and wrap gifts that would be delivered to more than 75 families in need across the Denver Metro area.
On Saturday morning, members of the team gathered with Rocky, the Denver Nuggets mascot, to personally deliver messages to families, along with gifts for their children and gift cards to help with food and other expenses.
“Western Union allowed us to essentially triple the impact we’re going to have,” said Dr. Ryan Ross, President and CEO, Urban Leadership Foundation. “I cannot thank Western Union enough for stepping up and being one of those organizations that honors their commitment to their diversity and equity statement.”
