Your experience traveling can be very different depending on where you want to go. Traveling to an urban space will provide you with a very different experience to rural areas. Both spots are great depending on what kind of vacation you are looking for. Consider these tips when deciding to travel to either an urban or rural location:
Urban:
Usually More Expensive
Traveling to an urban area will most likely cost more due to the location. Urban areas will have added fees for tolls, parking, and lodging. You’ll pay a pretty penny to eat meals out as well as need transportation to get around the city if you don’t have a car. Some large cities may surprise you with their low cost items but most urban cities will have an added cost due to their higher location costs.
More Activities To Do
The plus side of traveling to an urban area is that there is usually a lot of things to see and do. Urban areas are well known for their many festivals, parks, and tourist attractions. You can always find a museum, art gallery, or theater to entertain you in the hustle and bustle of a big city. Again, these items usually have an added cost but check out websites for free admission days or coupons for reduced tickets.
Excellent People Watching
If you are looking for a little bit of culture consider traveling to an urban area that is outside your state. Many big cities attract people from all walks of life and it can be interesting just to sit and watch those walking by on the sidewalk. Taking a child to an urban area can be a great learning opportunity to become aware of diversity and teaching children how other people live.
Rural:
Best For Relaxation
If you are looking for a slower pace and a more relaxed vacation, traveling to a rural area is a great option. People in rural areas take their time getting places and enjoy taking the road less traveled. Many rental or vacations homes in rural areas tend to have spacious land, which can be perfect for secluding yourself from the hustle and bustle of other travel spots.
Traveling to a rural area will be much more quiet than even a suburban area and will offer peace and tranquility in a place where the quality of living is often higher than places that are more renowned and have more people. Plan ahead so that you can be sure to get adequate lodging prior to arriving as there is usually only a few motels available and they can fill up quickly.
Enjoy The Little Things
Traveling to a rural area will allow you to stop and enjoy the little things in life. If you are staying at a Bed and Breakfast on a farm you will be able to enjoy the outdoors and probably meet a chicken or two. Rural areas are a great spot to catch wildlife as there is more room for them among the forests and prairies. Something as simple as a fluttering butterfly on a morning walk can bring so much enjoyment and remind you to appreciate the small things in the life. There aren’t many scheduled activities in a rural area so you will need to make your own entertainment so that you don’t get too bored.
Meet Friendly People
Most small towns in rural areas will be curious about travelers. You may notice many people stopping to look at you if you are new to town. This is totally normal but can be a bit intimidating. Realize that people in small towns literally know every other person in town. Make sure to announce to local shopkeepers that you are visiting and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Many people are super friendly in a small town and you will find the most relaxed and accommodating people in the heart of rural country.
There are great things about traveling to both urban and rural areas depending on what kind of vacation you are looking for. The urban scene will be much busier but will provide a lot of entertainment and excitement. Rural areas will provide more peace and quiet for a restful vacation. Either urban or rural locations will be a great option for whatever you choose for your upcoming travel plans.
