Western Union calls for Bi-partisan Immigration Reform

Western Union is pleased to join, along with leaders from the business, tech, agricultural and other communities, in calling for President Biden and the 117th U.S. Congress to make comprehensive, bipartisan immigration reform a top priority this year. Since 2004, Western Union has called for good-faith efforts to repair our broken, unfair immigration system as a ‘must-have’ for not just our immigrant community, but the businesses, industries and communities that depend on their labor, financial, and demographic contributions. It is long past time to recognize that equitable, humane treatment of those who come to America seeking to improve their lives through work or study is not just the ethical thing to do, but the right thing to do for our economy. Strong leadership and bipartisanship from Congress and the administration, starting on day one, are critical to build an immigration system that works for U.S. families, grows our economy, and strengthens communities, while welcoming immigrants who are critical partners in our society—particularly as we begin the long economic recovery and rebuilding process in the wake of COVID-19. As has been the case for some time, support for reform that addresses border security, expanded visa programs for high-skilled and agricultural workers and regularizing the status of undocumented immigrants spans the political spectrum: After the events of the past year—which have focused the world’s attention on issues of social and economic inequality as perhaps never before—now truly is the time to meaningfully address this issue once and for all. Western Union joins others as we call for productive, results-oriented dialogue and action on this never-more-urgent national imperative.
