Frequently Asked Questions

Upwardli

Who is Upwardli?

Upwardli is a company that provides credit building services, in partnership with Cross River
Bank. Upwardli can offer Western Union customers a line of credit that can be used to build
their credit history through Western Union money transfers. Upwardli is the name that you will
see on your credit report.
For any questions about your line of credit, contact Upwardli at support@upwardli.com
Please note that Upwardli is not a bank. Banking services are provided by Cross River Bank,
member FDIC.

How does the Credit Builder work?

If you are approved for a credit builder line of credit through Upwardli, you will be asked if you
want to use the line of credit for qualifying transfers. If you agree, Western Union will notify
Upwardli on your behalf of the amount you want to send and Upwardli will fund your transaction.
You will then pay Upwardli through Western Union’s bill pay service, and Western Union will
notify Upwardli when you have fulfilled your payment obligation.
Please note that any balances left unpaid may result in a late payment being reported to the
credit bureaus.

Why is this free for me?

Because we believe credit building should be free, we are happy to provide the credit
reporting option to you at no charge.

What do I need to apply?

• You must be at least 18 years old with a physical U.S. residence (no P.0. boxes).
• A valid social security number (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN).
• A valid government issued ID.

Will there be a hard credit inquiry when I apply?

No. A “soft inquiry” credit check is used to pre-approve you for a credit builder line of credit. If you are approved, you will see a new tradeline from Upwardli. Upwardli will report the line of credit and related activity to Experian and Equifax.

What is the limit to my line of credit?

All approved users will have access to a 2000 USD credit line that can be used only for money transfers with Western Union Digital Product.
If your transfer exceeds 2000 USD, it will not be eligible for credit building.

Why is credit reporting important?

Whether you are new to the US or just getting started, a ‘thin’ credit file can make it
difficult to get access to financial services, buy a car, rent a house, or even secure a job.
Reporting line of credit activity to the credit bureaus builds your credit history, increases
the types of credit on your credit report, and may boost your score.

Why can I not see my completed transfers using my Upwardli line of credit in Credit Builder?

All transfers will be updated in the monthly statement generated by the Credit Builder at
the end of the month.

What happens if I live in a state where credit building services are unavailable?

Only customers in eligible states have access to the credit builder. If you are in a state
where the credit builder is not offered, please check back with Upwardli because there
are plans to unlock additional states in the future.
