1) Transparency and reliability are the answer

Western Union makes it easy to check the currency exchange rate to the Ruble directly on the Western Union® app or on WU.com. You’ll know exactly how much money will arrive in Russia before you start the transaction.

If you prefer to pay for your transaction in cash, set up your transfer in the Western Union® app and complete the transaction at a nearby agent location, this will lock in the exchange rate[1]. If you don’t have the Western Union® app, you can always check the current exchange rate at our agent locations. With our 24/7 online customer support, we’re always here to answer your questions.

Currently, there is a €50,000 transfer limit to Russia. As with most things, this can be subject to change. Therefore, we recommend that you always check with Western Union before making a transaction to Russia.

2) Send the way that suits you and your receiver

Choose the way you want to send. On the go from virtually anywhere with our app, from the comfort of your home online with WU.com, or in person at your local agent location. This is the first step in making your money transfer and can affect the transfer fee[2] for your transaction. The respective fee will be displayed before your transaction is processed.

[1] Due to local restrictions, in some countries exchange rates can only be fixed on receiver side.

[2] Western Union also makes money from currency exchange.  When choosing a money transmitter, carefully compare both transfer fees and exchange rates. Fees, foreign exchange rates and taxes may vary by brand, channel, and location based on a number of factors. Fees and rates subject to change without notice.

Select your payment method. With Western Union, you can send money and pay the transfer fees in cash, via debit or credit card, with Klarna (Online bank transfer) or as a bank transfer from your account. Bear in mind, the various payment options can affect the amount you pay for your transfer, as well as the estimated time it will take for your transfer to arrive with your receiver.

It’s important to note that depending on how much money you wish to send, some payment options may not be available. The fees for each type of money transfer are based on different factors, such as the speed and type of transfer and the destination of funds.

3) Quick and reliable delivery

After choosing how you want to complete your transaction and selecting the payment method that fits your needs, you can decide on the best way for your recipient to receive your money transfer.

Western Union offers two options: you can either send your money transfer to a qualifying bank account in Russia, or you let your receiver pick up the money in cash in minutes[1] at one of thousands of Western Union® agent locations across Russia.

While Western Union provides a payout quote and receipt in Rubles, please let your receivers know they can still pick up US Dollars at many banks offering Western Union® services.

We know that anytime you send money abroad it’s important for both you and the receiver to know when it is going to arrive. Western Union makes tracking your transfer from start to finish easy thanks to the tracking number (MTCN) that you receive when completing your transaction. You should always save your MTCN and send it only to your receiver when you complete your transfer.

4) Get rewarded for sending regularly

Your loyalty to Western Union doesn’t go unnoticed. That’s why we have created the My WU® program as a way to say thank you to our customers. Earning points for rewards as a My WU® member is easy; simply use your My WU® number with every Western Union® money transfer to collect My WU® points. 1 EUR fee paid = 1 My WU® point.

Redeem your points for transfer fee discounts and rewards with a few clicks right here on MyWU.com. Your discount will be automatically applied to your next money transfer with Western Union.
