Sending money to a bank account in Costa Rica is quick and easy. You can send funds to eligible bank accounts by credit or debit card, bank transfer or by paying cash at an agency. Here’s how:

1. Log in or register and verify your account for free. Click ‘Send now’ to start the transfer.
2. Enter ‘Costa Rica’ as the destination and choose the amount to send. Transaction times vary by destination, but you will be able to view them when selecting the country.
3. Select how the funds are to be received by the recipient. You can select a previous recipient or enter the bank account details of a new recipient.
4. Pay by credit² card, debit card or bank transfer.
5. Check and confirm the money transfer. You will receive a confirmation e-mail with the transaction control number (MTCN). This number is used to keep track of the transfer and you can share it with the recipient.

If you want to get the amount to the recipient quickly, you can send money for cash collection. Simply pay by credit or debit card or by bank transfer and the money is ready for cash pick-up in minutes³.

If you pay by credit card or debit card:

1. Log in or register and verify your free account. Click ‘Send now’ to start the transfer.
2. Enter ‘Costa Rica’ as the destination and choose the amount to be sent. Select ‘Cash Collection’ and payment by card.
3. Enter the recipient’s data.
4. Pay with your credit² or debit card.
5. We will send you a confirmation e-mail with the transfer control number (MTCN). Please share this number with the recipient for cash collection.

If you pay by bank transfer:

1. Log in or register verify your free account. Click “Send now” to start the transfer.
2. Enter ‘Costa Rica’ as the destination and choose the amount you want to transfer from your bank account. Select ‘Cash Withdrawal’.
3. Check your bank account and complete the money transfer.
4. We will send you a confirmation e-mail with the transfer control number (MTCN). Please share this number with the recipient for a quick cash pick-up.

1. If you have already downloaded the Western Union^® app, sign in with your Touch ID or credentials. If you haven’t installed the app yet, download it from the App Store or Google Play. New users can follow the procedure to register with an email address. We need your driver’s license, passport or government-issued ID to verify your profile.
2. To start the transfer, enter ‘Costa Rica’ as the destination country and choose the amount to be sent. Choose the payment method you prefer and enter the name of the recipient.
3. Pay the money transfer by credit or debit card or from the bank account.
4. You will receive a transaction control number (MTCN). This number is used to keep track of the funds and you can share it with the recipient.
